Imensa Saudade

Synopsis

In 1998, it was possible to stamp a passport with signs from around the world without leaving Lisbon, thanks to Expo 98. In a kaleidoscopic invitation to submersion, we returned to the World Exhibition that marked the 500th anniversary of the Maritime Expansion. The theme '' The oceans: a heritage for the future '' underlined the proximity to the river and celebrated multiculturalism, bringing us closer to traditions, habits, cultures and music from different continents. Receiving more than 11 million visitors over 4 months, it was one of the biggest exhibitions that Portugal hosted and, in this meeting of Portuguese speakers, we heard concerts by Maria João and Mário Laginha, Dulce Pontes, Sérgio Godinho, GNR, Clã, Rui Veloso, Pedro Abrunhosa, Rio Grande, Delfins, Xutos & Pontapés, Madredeus, Cesária Évora and Marisa Monte, among José Medeiros' declamations, the rhythms of Adufe, Alentejo sing, drums of Tocá'Rufar and drumming of Finka Pé. In a sensorial profusion that gathers points of view of the event, homage is paid to figures as emblematic as Amália or Manoel de Oliveira and, in several languages, we hear about the IMMENSE HEALTH that will leave the Exhibition that marked those who visited it.
