SYNOPSIS

In 1998, it was possible to stamp a passport with signs from all over the world without leaving Lisbon, thanks to Expo 98. In a kaleidoscopic invitation to immersion, we return to the World Exposition that marked the 500th anniversary of Maritime Expansion. The theme The Oceans: a Heritage for the Future highlighted the proximity to the river and celebrated multiculturalism by bringing us closer to the traditions, habits, cultures, and music of various continents. Receiving more than 11 million visitors over 4 months, it was one of the largest exhibitions Portugal ever hosted. In this gathering of Portuguese-speaking cultures, we hear concerts by Maria João and Mário Laginha, Dulce Pontes, Sérgio Godinho, GNR, Clã, Rui Veloso, Pedro Abrunhosa, Rio Grande, Delfins, Xutos & Pontapés, Madredeus, Cesária Évora, and Marisa Monte, amidst recitations by José Medeiros, the rhythms of Adufe, Alentejo cante, the drums of Tocá'Rufar, and the batuques of Finka Pé. In a sensory profusion that gathers viewpoints of the event, tribute is paid to iconic figures such as Amália or Manoel de Oliveira and, in several languages, we hear about the Imensa Saudade that the Exhibition would leave in those who visited it.
