SYNOPSIS
Around 1213, Friar Gualter was sent by Saint Francis of Assisi to Guimarães. Devotion to this Franciscan friar grew over time, and in 1577, the Brotherhood of Saint Gualter was founded. Since 1906, the "Gualterianas" have been celebrated—a new form of festivities held by the city in honor of its patron saint.
