Three variations on the theme of relations between the military and power in Portugal. Otelo Saraiva de Carvalho narrates the journey that led him, along with his comrades from the Captains' Movement, from the Colonial War to the coup d'état of April 25, 1974, and the successive crises that, by destroying the mythical unity of the Armed Forces, led to November 25, 1975, and the end of the Revolution. University professor Eduardo Lourenço analyzes the sudden descent of the military from their "political heaven" into more revolutionary politics. Like in a detective novel, American journalist Robert Kramer searches for those responsible for the failure of the April Revolution. From the intersection of these fragmentary discourses, a contradictory, fleeting, and incomplete image of the Portuguese military emerges—like a puzzle being completed piece by piece.
